Ghost Protein Bars are Ghost Lifestyle's first entry into the protein snack category, launched September 2025 in collaboration with General Mills. The format is the story: instead of one oversized bar, each packet contains two separate smaller bars — a dual-stick candy-bar-inspired design that delivers more chocolate coating surface area per gram and a format that's genuinely new to the functional snack category. Each 65g packet delivers 20g of protein from a triple-source dairy protein blend (Hydrolyzed Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate, Milk Protein Isolate), only 2g of sugar, 7-9g of dietary fiber, and 250-270 calories. Sweetened with Allulose, Maltitol Syrup, Stevia, and a small amount of sugar — designed to taste like a candy bar without the blood sugar spike. Three launch flavors: Chocolate Caramel, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Choco Chip Cookie Dough. Contains Milk, Soy, Peanut. May contain Wheat, Cashew, Almond.†

What Makes Ghost Protein Bars Different

The Dual-Bar Format

Every major protein bar on the market — Quest, RXBar, Built Bar, ONE Bar, Barebells — is a single bar per wrapper. Ghost Protein Bars are two smaller bars per packet, a format Ghost describes as the first of its kind in the functional snack category. This is not a gimmick: splitting one bar's worth of ingredients into two narrower bars produces more surface area for chocolate coating relative to interior mass, which is the primary driver of how these bars achieve candy-bar taste. More coating means more of what you taste first and most — the chocolate — relative to the denser, protein-forward interior. The dual-bar format also makes partial serving intuitive: eat one bar, save one for later, or share with someone else. This is not something you can do with a conventional single-bar format without making a mess.†

The Triple Protein Blend

Ghost's protein system in the bars uses three dairy protein forms with distinct digestion rates. Hydrolyzed Milk Protein Isolate is the fastest-absorbing component — pre-digested through enzymatic hydrolysis into short peptide chains that bypass much of the GI digestion step and reach the bloodstream rapidly. Whey Protein Concentrate digests more slowly than hydrolyzate due to the complete protein structure that must be broken down, but is highly bioavailable and provides the full whey amino acid profile including high leucine content. Milk Protein Isolate is the slowest of the three — milk protein isolate contains approximately 80% casein and 20% whey by protein composition, and casein's gel-forming behavior in the acidic stomach environment produces a slow, sustained amino acid release over 4-7 hours. Together, the three forms create a multi-phase amino acid release that delivers immediate protein availability (from the hydrolyzate), intermediate release (from WPC), and prolonged anti-catabolism (from the casein component of MPI).†

The Sweetener System — Why Only 2g Sugar

Ghost achieves 2g of total sugar (and 0g added sugar) through a layered sweetener approach that combines multiple compounds at lower individual doses to produce candy-bar sweetness without blood glucose impact. Allulose is the star — a rare sugar that occurs naturally in small amounts in figs, raisins, and wheat, but is now commercially produced through enzymatic conversion from fructose. Allulose tastes approximately 70% as sweet as sucrose, melts and caramelizes like real sugar (critical for the caramel layer in the Chocolate Caramel flavor), and is metabolized differently — approximately 90% is absorbed in the small intestine and excreted in urine without being metabolized for energy, producing essentially zero caloric contribution and zero glycemic response despite functioning texturally like real sugar. Stevia provides additional sweetness at the back of the palate. Maltitol Syrup and Sorbitol contribute the sugar alcohol sweetness and moisture retention alongside Glycerin. The oligofructose and inulin prebiotic fibers add mild sweetness alongside their gut health benefits.†

Prebiotic Fiber — 7-9g per Packet

Ghost Protein Bars contain both oligofructose and inulin — prebiotic fibers derived from chicory root that feed beneficial Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species in the large intestine, supporting gut microbiome health and diversity. At 7-9g of total dietary fiber per serving, Ghost Protein Bars deliver more fiber than most comparable protein bars — a meaningful contribution toward the daily fiber target of 25-38g that most Americans fall well short of. The prebiotic fiber content also contributes to the satiety effect of the bars: soluble fiber forms a viscous gel in the stomach that slows gastric emptying and sustains fullness, making the bars effective between-meal snacks for appetite management alongside their protein content.†

Flavor Profiles

Chocolate Caramel

The hero launch flavor — inspired by classic chocolate caramel candy bars (think Twix). A doughy base layer topped with a gooey caramel layer, all wrapped in a milk chocolate coating. The allulose-based caramel achieves the textural properties of real caramel (gooey pull, melt-in-the-mouth behavior) without the blood glucose impact of traditional caramel made with sucrose or corn syrup.

Chocolate Peanut Butter

A peanut butter base with a salty caramel layer wrapped in milk chocolate — the same macros as Chocolate Caramel (20g protein, 2g sugar, 270 calories). Peanut oil is in the ingredients list as a separate ingredient, contributing to the authentic peanut butter character. Contains: Milk, Soy, Peanut. Additional peanut allergen caution applies.

Choco Chip Cookie Dough

Ghost's take on the cookie dough protein bar — a category that has proven highly popular across the bar category since Quest's introduction of it. Ghost's version uses the dual-stick format with their layered construction and the same 20g protein / 2g sugar macro profile.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ghost Protein Bars

  1. How does the calorie count compare to other protein bars?
At 250-270 calories per packet, Ghost Protein Bars are more calorie-dense than the leanest protein bars on the market (Quest at 190-200 calories, One Bar at 220 calories) but comparable to Barebells (210-250 calories) and significantly better than conventional candy bars they're designed to replace (Snickers at 250-280 calories, Twix at 280 calories). The higher fat content (13g, primarily from palm oil and the chocolate coating) is what drives the calorie count — and is what produces the authentic candy-bar eating experience. If your primary constraint is minimizing calories per gram of protein, Quest is leaner. If your constraint is eating something that tastes like a candy bar while getting 20g of protein, Ghost's format is the right trade-off.†
  2. What does "Contains Bioengineered Food Ingredients" mean?
This is an FDA-required disclosure under the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard (NBFDS), which went into effect January 1, 2022. It indicates that one or more ingredients in the product were produced using genetic engineering (GMO technology). It does not indicate any safety concern — all bioengineered food ingredients approved for use in the US have undergone FDA and USDA safety review. The disclosure is required by law for transparency, not as a warning.†
  3. Can I eat one bar and save the other?
Yes — this is one of the practical advantages of the dual-bar format. Each individual bar is approximately 32-33g and delivers roughly 10g of protein and 125-135 calories. There is no designated "tear here" line on the packaging, but the two bars are separate inside the wrapper and can be resealed in a zip-lock bag or storage container without issue. The texture and freshness hold reasonably well for a day after opening if stored properly.†
  4. Are Ghost Protein Bars appropriate for people with peanut allergies?
No. Ghost Protein Bars list Peanut as a "Contains" allergen (not just "May Contain") — peanut oil is an intentional ingredient in the formula, not just a cross-contact risk. Individuals with any peanut allergy must not consume Ghost Protein Bars. The "May Contain: Wheat, Cashew, Almond" statement covers additional manufacturing cross-contact risks.†
